PHASE ONE

Report #1: RIG 22

Date: 18th August 3026 Time: 02:15 AM

In the dead of night, 5 operatives of the SCUBA infiltrated the MysteriousWalrus' compound.

The first peculiar thing was the ankle deep standing water. Everything was wet, and it was almost as if it was on purpose. There were no visible signs of efforts to drain it - no pumps, pipes, etc.

-- Transcript Begins --

[Operative 5 / Soldier]: I see an anomalous room designation - RIG 22: ClaMS. Entering...

[Operative 2 / Marine and Xenobiologist]: What is that? Are those RIG output lines? Why are they pushing water INTO the RIG?

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: It looks like it has further modifications. The panel here reads "Current Output: 220 units/d". That's not possible, how is this RIG even pulling so much water? It's certainly not the faction approved design.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Whatever it is, look around and grab pictures. We need to extract before we get caught.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: I found a journal. It seems to have notes about ClaMS. It says here it's short for "Cloning and Material Sciences" and that RIG 22 is a prototype of a....matter cloning device. What the hell?

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Well that explains the water. What about the walrus captains though. And the unexplained ships and water? Not to mention their incredible speed.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Guys. Look outside. Doesn't that look like a Shockwave Dampening Field Generator? And here, isn't this literally a Polarity Field Generator? What are gateway parts doing here?

[Operative 3]: It does look like a polarity field gen. Do you think they were experimenting with matter cloning with space-time warping tech? If they somehow got access to the Gateways around Promitor and implemented it using existing tech, it would explain the quick turnarounds.

*Growing sound of heavy flapping*

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Do you hear that? Grab the journal, let’s get outta here right now!

-- End of Transcript --

Only 4 of the 5 operatives were successfully extracted. Operative 2 was too interested in the Walrussian biology and tripped while looking back at them as they chased her.

Recovery deemed too risky, was not attempted.

Further examination of the journal confirmed involvement of a Gateway-adjacent Space-Time warping technology.

-- End of Report --

Report #2: Promitor

Date: 18th August 3026 Time: 23:40 PM

Prior to authorizing an on-site expedition to Promitor, SCUBA cross-referenced Etherwind's own gateway telemetry — all three of Etherwind's gateways having been built and are still maintained under Stella Foundation's original Benten Gateways coordination, giving SCUBA full legitimate access to their logs without any need for infiltration.

The correlation was immediate: unlogged coil cycling at Etherwind's Gateway 2 lined up, almost transit-for-transit, with unexplained coil wear previously flagged by a Stella contact inside COSM at one of Promitor's three gateways. Two regions with two separate builders but one synchronized pattern.

Promitor's gateways are managed by Cosmocene Combine outright — Stella holds no jurisdiction there. Commander (Operative 1) opted not to send operatives in blind a second time. Instead, contact was made with a Stella-friendly officer inside COSM's Promitor security division, working off the FOXV threat footing already in place.

-- Transcript Begins --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: We are going in through the front door, with your name on the request.

[COSM Contact, secure channel]: You're lucky Promitor's still jumpy about FOXV, or I couldn't justify pulling a private-party correlation for you at all. What's Stella got?

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Coil wear pattern from Etherwind's Griffonstone Gateway syncs with unlogged cycling COSM already flagged at Promitor's Amethyst Gateway. Same cadence, near-identical spacing. This isn't two separate problems.

[COSM Contact]: ...That's not a coincidence I like. Insitor gateways are ours to secure, and I've had that discrepancy sitting in an unsolved queue for two cycles. If Benten's seeing the same pattern from the other end, something's routing components — or worse — straight through both regions without either of us clocking it as one operation.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Whoever's behind ClaMS didn't just borrow Gateway tech. They found the one blind spot that exists specifically because Benten and Insitor don't share oversight.

[COSM Contact]: I can get you two hours on-site at Gateway 2, unofficial, no report filed on our end. Anything you find, I want a copy before Stella leadership does.

[Operative 1]: Done. Just keep your patrols quiet on approach — we don't need FOXV rumors putting Promitor security anywhere near this before we've confirmed anything.

-- End of Transcript --

On-site inspection confirmed an unregistered auxiliary module docked to Promitor's Amethyst Gateway — tucked against the structure's maintenance ring, transponder dark, requisitioned under a shell company: "Watergate Logistics LLC." Inside, Polarity Field Generator housings matched the manufacturer stamp recovered at Etherwind's RIG 22. A partially burned requisition slip bore the fragment "...RIOUS" beside a torn aquatic seal.

Preliminary conclusion: ClaMS is not a single-region operation. Someone is exploiting the gap between Benten's and Insitor's independent gateway authorities to move components — and possibly test payloads — across regional lines without either Stella or COSM's official oversight ever seeing the full picture at once.

SCUBA recommends the COSM liaison be formalized as an ongoing (off-record) intelligence channel, and that Stella leadership be briefed on the cross-region blind spot independent of the ClaMS investigation itself.

-- End of Report --

Report #3: Cornucopia

Date: 19th August 3026 Time: 01:52 AM

The requisition slip's seal fragment was forwarded to Stella Foundation's archival division for cross-reference — not against faction crests, but against authorizing marks on sealed historical documents, on the theory that its design predated faction splintering entirely.

It matched.

-- Transcript Begins --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Archives came back on the seal. Tell me it's nothing.

[Operative 7 / Archivist, remote]: It's not nothing. I ran the fragment against everything I had clearance to search. It's a match — the same mark, on record, stamped on the original shelving order for a project called "Cornucopia." Pre-Exodus. It was never publicly documented, and marked as Non-viable.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Non-viable, or non-permitted?

[Operative 7]: Cross-referenced against the ClaMS journal specs — the replication approach, the water substrate methodology, the Polarity Field integration — this isn't new research. It's a completion of Cornucopia. And the seal isn't just old. It's the exact same authorizing mark used to shelve it in the first place, now stamped on a requisition slip for Gateway parts a thousand years later.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: So the tech is not stolen but authorized for this? But by who? This thing is ancient. This makes no sense.

[Operative 7]: The shelving order lists no individual signatory. Just a designation: "The Custodians." Whatever that is, it never stopped existing long enough to reauthorize its own millennia-old moratorium.

[Operative 1]: Why now, though. Why dig this back up at all.

[Operative 7]: That part I can only give you circumstantially. You've both seen the market advisories — the APEX Continuity Floor's been unwinding for weeks. It's held basic material prices artificially flat since the colonization period, and BFab production margins never recovered from it. Nobody built capacity because APEX's own broker nodes were quietly selling cheaper than any player base could profitably match. Now the Floor's lifting, gradually, tied to rolling average prices, and production capacity across every region is nowhere close to catching up. Estimates I've seen put the gap north of a hundred fifty bases, minimum, before supply has any chance of meeting demand. Prices are expected to spike hard within the next few weeks.

[Operative 4]: And somebody with Cornucopia in hand is sitting on the one technology that ends that math permanently.

[Operative 7]: Or profits from it never ending.

-- End of Transcript --

Preliminary conclusion: RIG 22 / ClaMS is confirmed as a revival of Project Cornucopia, authorized under the same historical seal that originally shelved it — proof the Custodians remain active and have deliberately chosen this moment, amid a galaxy-wide Basic Fabrications capacity shortfall, to bring it back online.

SCUBA recommends immediate investigation into why the Custodians would revive a scarcity-breaking technology during the worst production shortage in recorded market history — and whether "why" points toward solving that shortage, or capitalizing on it.

-- End of Report --

Report #4: FINAL (Phase One)

Date: 20th August 3026 Time: 04:03 AM

-- Transcript Begins --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Archives. Give me the "why now."

[Operative 7 / Archivist, remote]: I don't have a confirmed motive. I have two that fit the evidence, and no way from here to tell which one's true — possibly both are true, for different factions inside the Custodians.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Lay them out.

[Operative 7]: Option one: they revive Cornucopia to actually fix it. A working replicator solves the universe-wide shortage of basic materials overnight, permanently, and whoever deploys it looks like they saved the galaxy's economy in its worst supply crisis in memory.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: And option two?

[Operative 7]: They never intend to deploy it at all. They bury it deeper, quietly confirm it still works, and let the shortage run its course exactly the way it's already headed — every region scrambling to build capacity, prices climbing on schedule, and the one party who could've ended that stays silent and profits off the scarcity instead. They know it works and it might be enough for them.

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Etherwind's a perfect place to run that test either way. Massive but filled with water, deniable, easy to write off as one eccentric operator if anyone noticed early.

[Operative 1]: And whichever way they lean, MysteriousWalrus doesn't know which future he's sitting in the middle of.

[Operative 7]: Neither do I, Commander, and I've read further into this than either of us should have. I can tell you the Custodians are real, they are old and span more than one region. And the timing isn't a coincidence either. I can't tell you who they are though. Every name I ran was scrubbed before I could confirm it.

[Operative 1] Put it all in the report. There is more than what meets the eyes.

[Operative 7]: For what it's worth, Commander — I couldn't tie the Custodians to any known body. Not any regional authority, not a corporate registry, nothing on record anywhere. Whatever it is, it predates every institution we'd normally check against. It's just... not on any map we have.

[Operative 4]: Does it bother anyone else that we have no idea who to even be afraid of?

[Operative 1]: It should. Anyway, this doesn’t look like it's ours to keep digging, unless Foundation leadership says otherwise.

[Operative 6]: So who takes it now?

[Operative 1]: I'm recommending it to the Bureau of Diplomacy. If The Custodians have been operating quietly for a thousand years without anyone confirming they exist, going in loud a second time isn't going to work twice. Talking it out might be better.

-- End of Transcript --

Final assessment: RIG 22 / ClaMS is a live, functioning revival of Project Cornucopia, authorized by an entity referred to only as "The Custodians" — an organization of unknown origin, structure, and membership, untraceable to any known regional authority, corporation, or governing body. SCUBA could not determine whether the Custodians intend to resolve the ongoing Basic Fabrication shortfall or capitalize on it. Both outcomes remain consistent with all evidence recovered.

SCUBA's recommendation: this case is beyond SCUBA's mandate to close. Referred to Stella Foundation's Bureau of Diplomacy for further contact assessment — assuming The Custodians can be contacted at all.

PHASE TWO

Report #1: Extraction

Date: 21st August 3026 Time: 11:38 AM

Orders came directly from Stella White. Objective: Extract MysteriousWalrus from Etherwind without alerting planetary authorities, and deliver him to the Void Explorer, in orbit above Tarvos.

Nothing holds orbit above Tarvos voluntarily — the gravity well eats ships without stabilization equipment; few operators can justify the cost of running. Which was, presumably, the point.

-- Transcript Begins --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Confirm the objective. We're not bringing him in for questioning, we're relocating him.

[Stella Contact, secure channel]: Correct. This isn't an arrest. Consider it….protective custody if it helps your team sleep at night — but he needs to be off Etherwind before anyone else decides they want him off Etherwind first.

[Operative 1]: Anyone specific we should be worried about is already moving?

[Stella Contact]: If I had a name, Commander, you'd have it already. Besides, Tarvos keeps unwanted company away better than any security detail I could put on him.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: That's not comforting, that's just outsourcing the paranoia to a gravity well.

[Operative 1]: It's working, isn't it.

-- Transcript Continues, Etherwind Surface --

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: There is no one here. That’s sketchy.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: RIG 22's dark. Cold. Nobody's run it in days, going by the readouts.

[Operative 1]: Find him first, worry about the machine later.

[MysteriousWalrus]: You're later than I expected.

[Operative 1]: You were expecting us?

[MysteriousWalrus]: I was expecting someone weeks ago.

[Operative 3]: We're not here to hurt you. We're moving you somewhere safer.

[MysteriousWalrus]: I know exactly what "somewhere safer" means when it comes with an armed escort and no warning. I'm not fighting it. I'd rather go somewhere Stella controls than wait around for whoever else has been asking questions.

[Operative 1]: Someone's been asking questions.

[MysteriousWalrus]: Someone's always been asking questions, Commander. You're just the first ones who got close enough for it to matter. Let's go before that stops being true.

-- Transcript Continues, StelRaptor Mk1, Departing Etherwind --

[MysteriousWalrus]: This is the whole ship?

[Operative 1]: This is the whole ship.

[MysteriousWalrus]: It's a coffin with an engine bolted on.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Well, it’s only a coffin if it cannot outrun anything that'd try to kill us. Strap in, the high-G seat isn't decorative.

[MysteriousWalrus]: I'd have expected something bigger for a "protective custody”.

[Operative 1]: Bigger gets noticed. A destroyer inbound to Etherwind pings planetary defense before we're even in scanner range, and from there it's on every security channel in the system inside a minute — planetary authority, faction government, anyone else watching that frequency. We needed a ship small and fast enough that by the time anyone bothers to notice us, we're already gone.

[MysteriousWalrus]: I took Stella to be one to show force. Never thought she would go the stealth route.

[Operative 1]: This is also one of the most advanced hulls in the fleet. Stella didn't send us in something disposable.

[MysteriousWalrus]: That's not reassuring, Commander. That's just a more expensive way of telling me how much this matters to her.

[Operative 1]: Strap in. We'll be outside tracking range in six minutes either way.

[Operative 1]: By the way, we're not flying you to Tarvos directly. Void Explorer's already holding orbit there. We get you clear of Etherwind's gravity well, jump once we're outside anyone's tracking range, and hand you off in transfer. Nobody follows a Dart through a blind jump.

[MysteriousWalrus]: And nobody follows anything into Tarvos orbit at all, from what I hear.

[Operative 1]: That's the idea.

-- End of Transcript --

RIG 22 was left sealed, powered down, and untouched. No attempt was made to move or disable it — Operative 1's call, on the basis that a dark, cold facility draws less attention than an obviously stripped one, and that decision on Cornucopia's disposition belongs above SCUBA's pay grade.

The StelRaptor Mk1 cleared Etherwind's gravity well without incident, executed a blind jump outside tracking range per standard extraction protocol, and rendezvoused with the Void Explorer on schedule. MysteriousWalrus was transferred aboard and the StelRaptor immediately broke off toward Benten Station.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: MysteriousWalrus did not ask where he was being taken. He did not ask why. His only question, asked once the Void Explorer cleared Etherwind's orbit, was:

"Did anyone else get out?"

No follow-up was offered. None was requested.

-- End of Report --

Report #2: Silence

Date: 21st August 3026 Time: 02:23 PM

-- Transcript Begins, StelRaptor Mk1 #1, Departing Tarvos Orbit --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Handoff's clean. Void Explorer confirms Walrus aboard, we're breaking for Benten Station.

[Void Explorer, comms]: Confirmed, Commander. Package secured. We'll hold position and begin—

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Sir, we lost them.

[Operative 1]: Say again.

[Operative 6]: Carrier signal cut mid-transmission. There is no distress ping or drift beacon. Void Explorer's just... not broadcasting anymore.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Could be Tarvos. The gravity well plays hell with comms at that range, we've seen interference before—

[Operative 6]: Not like this. Interference would degrade it, not cut it out completely.

[Operative 1]: Reverse course.

[Operative 3]: Commander, we're a Dart, not a rescue ship, we don't have the stabilization suite to hold position that close to Tarvos for—

[Operative 1]: Did I stutter?!. And get me Stella White on a secure channel, right now.

-- Transcript Continues, Secure Channel, Benten Station --

[Stella White]: Say your status, Commander.

[Operative 1]: Void Explorer's dark. No distress signal, no beacon, comms cut mid-transmission less than four minutes after handoff. We're the closest asset and we don't have the hull rating to do anything but confirm what we're already assuming.

[Stella White]: Hold your position outside the gravity threshold. Do not attempt an approach.

[Operative 1]: With respect, that's the ship we just handed him to.

[Stella Foundation Command]: Which is why you're not going in alone. Stand by.

-- Transcript Continues, 03:11 PM --

Stella Foundation leadership personally boarded the StelRaptor Mk2 — the flagship of Stella's fleet, larger and more heavily armored than the Mk1 line while retaining comparable speed — with the second Dart, StelRaptor Mk1 #2, flying escort. Both vessels arrived at Tarvos's outer gravity threshold within the hour.

[Operative 1]: That's not a response I expected this fast.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: That's not a response I expected personally. That's the flagship. That's Stella herself. She is coming to a planet nobody voluntarily visits, for one missing ship.

[Operative 3]: Either Walrus is worth a lot more, or whatever took Void Explorer dark is a problem big enough that she doesn't trust anyone else to be first on scene.

[Operative 1]: Maybe both. Hold formation. We follow the Mk2's lead from here.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Whatever "protective custody" was meant to protect Walrus from, it reached him inside of four minutes at a location nobody was supposed to be able to reach at all.

-- End of Report --

Report #3: Arrival

Date: 21st August 3026 Time: 03:26 PM

-- Transcript Begins, Tarvos Outer Gravity Threshold --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Mk2 is holding position, they're not pushing closer without stabilization confirmation. Smart. Stubborn, but smart.

[Stella White, open channel]: Commander, patch me through to your team. I want everyone to hear this at once.

[Operative 1]: You have ‘em.

[Stella White]: I'm not going to pretend I know what's waiting for us down there. I don't. I have your reports, and I have a man who apparently succeeded at something that was buried on purpose a thousand years ago. That's all I know. Same as you.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: With respect, ma'am — you didn't have to come personally for that.

[Stella White]: If Cornucopia is real, and it's sitting in the hands of whoever just went dark, it doesn't stay buried. Not this time. Too many people are about to go without because of a shortage that shouldn't exist, and I am not going to be the person who found the fix and decided the galaxy wasn't ready for it. Whatever's down there, I want eyes on it myself before anyone else gets to decide what happens to it next.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: You think Walrus is the reason it's dark.

[Stella White]: I think whoever wanted Cornucopia buried again didn't lose track of it because Void Explorer had a comms fault. I think the one man who proved it could be revived just became the most valuable and most dangerous person in this system, and somebody decided that was worth acting on immediately. Move in. Slow, careful, but move.

[Operative 1]: Ma'am — before we go further. This is Benten's capital system. A ship going dark with no explanation, inside Navy jurisdiction — might be worth reporting.

[Stella White]: We should report it. Legally, we should have reported this as soon as the comms were cut.

[Operative 3]: But we haven't called it in.

[Stella White]: No. Because the second Benten Navy is on this frequency, we will lose control very fast. Then come questions –- questions about what Void Explorer was doing at Tarvos in the first place — questions I can't answer honestly without putting Cornucopia on record before I even know what's down there.

[Operative 4]: So we're choosing between reporting it and finding out what actually happened first.

[Stella White]: I'm choosing to look before I explain something I don't understand yet. If this is nothing — a stabilization fault, a fluke — I file the report myself within the hour and take whatever scrutiny comes with sitting on it that long. If it's something worse, the Navy needs to know regardless, but they need to know the right thing, not my best guess shouted over an open channel at Tarvos. That's not a decision I'm making lightly, Commander. I'm aware of exactly what it looks like if this goes wrong.

[Operative 1]: Understood. For the record, ma'am — I flagged it.

[Stella White]: Noted. And Commander — that's exactly why I wanted you on this instead of just Mk2 alone. I need people willing to ask that question out loud, not just people willing to follow the order after I've already made the call.

-- Transcript Continues, 03:47 PM, Void Explorer Confirmed on Sensors --

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Contact. Void Explorer's hull is intact, drifting, no propulsion signature. No visible damage on approach scan.

[Operative 1]: No damage and no comms. That's not a malfunction pattern.

[Stella White]: Boarding party, Mk2 first. SCUBA holds the Darts back as a screen — if something's still aboard, I want the fastest ships in this system able to get a warning out before anyone else goes dark.

[Operative 1]: Copy. Holding position.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Stella White did not ask whether Cornucopia should be recovered. She asked how fast.

-- End of Report --

Report #4: Boarding

Date: 21st August 3026 Time: 03:59 PM

-- Transcript Begins, Void Explorer, Boarding Party (Mk2 Detachment + Operative 1) --

[Boarding Lead, Mk2 Detachment]: Airlock's unpowered, manual override only. No forced entry markings. Whoever did this had access, it was not a breach.

[Stella White]: That rules out an outside hostile.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Or it means whoever did this didn't need to force anything.

-- 04:23 PM, Bridge --

[Boarding Lead]: Crew's alive. All of them. Unconscious, heavily sedated, by the look of it, and recently. Vitals are steady.

[Stella White]: Sedated by what?

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Environmental systems log an atmospheric additive cycle roughly six minutes after handoff confirmation. Not a malfunction. Someone dialed it in manually, from the bridge console.

[Stella White]: Where is he?

[Boarding Lead]: Shuttle bay's short one craft. No launch alarm tripped — whoever took it used the same manual bypass on the bay doors. This was planned, start to finish, before he ever stepped aboard.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Or he let us extract him because it was the fastest way off Etherwind without anyone officially noticing he'd left. We were just a layover.

-- 04:34 PM, Bridge Console, Recovered Recording --

[MysteriousWalrus, recorded]: If you're hearing this, the crew's fine, I made sure of that. I'm sorry for the theater. I needed a head start, and I needed it from somewhere nobody would think to look for a missing ship — which, ironically, you handed me yourselves. Tell Stella I know exactly what she's hoping I can do with Cornucopia, and I know exactly why she's the one who came herself instead of sending a report up a chain. She's not wrong to want it fixed. She's wrong about who else already knows I can do it. I couldn't wait around to find out which of you they'd get to first.

-- End of Transcript --

Status: MysteriousWalrus unaccounted for, believed departed under his own power via an unlogged shuttle. Cornucopia's current custody is unknown. No hostile action confirmed.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: MysteriousWalrus did not run from Stella Foundation. He ran from something he expected to reach him even inside a "protective" extraction.

-- End of Report --

Report #5: The Authority

Date: 21st August 3026 Time: 09:30 PM, Benten Station

Word of Void Explorer's incident reached ReaperTech leadership faster than Stella Foundation had intended to disclose it. SilentReaper arrived at Benten Station in person, departing directly from Neo Tokyo-e — the system built under his own supervision, now home to ReaperTech's primary shipyards, where exotic hull assembly happens planetside while components arrive from across the universe for final construction.

He did not arrive quietly.

-- Transcript Begins, Benten Station, Docking Observation --

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Commander. You need to see this.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: What am I look— that's not a diplomatic escort. That's a destroyer. This will light up the defense grid like its Christmas.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: That's not just a destroyer. That's The Authority. Reaper's flagship. Full armor rating, built to tank railgun fire at point blank. He didn't bring that for a conversation, he brought it because he could. Station security is probably shitting bricks right now.

[Benten Traffic Control, broadcast]: Unregistered capital-class vessel, you are inside a commodity exchange security perimeter without prior clearance. Identify intent immediately or you will be treated as a hostile presence.

[SilentReaper, open channel]: This is SilentReaper of ReaperTech Shipyards. I'm here for Stella White, and I'll clear whatever paperwork the Benten government wants after the conversation, not before.

[Benten Traffic Control]: That is not how this station's jurisdiction works, and you know it.

[Stella White, joining channel]: This is Stella White. I'll vouch for him and take responsibility for the clearance breach. Reaper — you've made your point. Stand The Authority down to standard hold pattern before Benten's government decides you are a good target for practicing shots.

[SilentReaper]: ...Fine. Standing down. But we're talking. Now.

-- Transcript Continues, Private Meeting, Benten Station --

[SilentReaper]: You do understand what you just made me do. I don't answer to Benten's faction government, but showing up armed in their station without clearance is the kind of thing that gets written into diplomatic memory for years. I wouldn't have risked that for a routine update.

[Stella White]: Then let's not waste it. Walk me through why you actually came.

[SilentReaper]: Because apparently someone uncovered a working matter replicator and a black-ops chase across systems, and I heard about the second part from a status ping, not from you. I want to know what I actually stumbled into before Benten's government starts asking me the same question with a lot less patience.

*Slides files*

[Stella White]: Cornucopia. A working matter replicator, pre-Exodus, revived under the authority of something calling itself The Custodians. They are real and span more than one region. MysteriousWalrus built a working prototype on Etherwind and has since gone missing under his own power.

[SilentReaper]: ...And the BFabs shortage.

[Stella White]: Might be solvable overnight, if the wrong people don't get to it first. Or get permanently worse, if they do.

[SilentReaper]: If this involves Gateway tech being borrowed off the books, there's exactly one organization in this universe that would notice before anyone officially did.

[Stella White]: SNF.

[SilentReaper]: Supernova Foundries has built more gateways than any other single region, faster than anyone else has managed it. Realbandit's been coordinating Morian gateway construction for a very long time. If someone's siphoning coil cycles anywhere in this universe, he's either already noticed, or he's the only one with enough historical throughput data to prove it happened elsewhere too.

[Stella White]: And if Realbandit's already a Custodian himself? He's old enough, connected enough.

[SilentReaper]: Then we'll know that too, the moment we ask and watch how carefully he answers.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: ReaperTech's flagship parked itself in neutral commodity-exchange space without clearance to force a conversation Stella Foundation hadn't yet volunteered.

-- End of Report --

Report #6: Moria

Date: 22nd August 3026 Time: 11:15 AM

Contact with Supernova Foundries was routed through Stella Foundation's existing relationship with Realbandit, established during the original Benten Gateways project — SNF had lent materials and expertise to that effort at Stella's request, one of the few times Moria's gateway coordination extended meaningfully into Benten space.

-- Transcript Begins, Secure Channel, Stella White to Realbandit --

[Stella White]: Realbandit. It's been a while.

[Realbandit]: Stella. Last I heard from you directly, it was gateway stabilization ratios and a very generous materials request. What’s up? Is the Pressure Shielding delayed again?

[Stella White]: I need to ask you something, and I need you to answer as the man who's coordinated more gateway construction than anyone alive, not as SNF's leadership.

[Realbandit]: Those are usually the same answer, Stella, but go on.

[Stella White]: Have you seen unexplained coil cycling anywhere in your throughput data — traffic that doesn't match logged transits, anywhere, any region? Not just Moria.

[long pause]

[Realbandit]: Why?

[Stella White]: Because we found it in Benten and Insitor both. Someone's been running unlogged micro-transits through at least two gateways, and it traces back to pre-Exodus tech that shouldn't exist anymore.

[Realbandit]: If something's been slipping through gateway traffic undetected, mine's the best place to start looking for a pattern instead of guessing at one.

[Stella White]: Which is exactly why I'm asking you and not someone else.

[Realbandit]: Send me the data. All of it, unfiltered. If what you're describing is real and it's touched more than one region without anyone noticing until now, I want to know if it's touched Moria too — and I'd rather find that out from you than discover it myself six months from now and wonder how long it's been running under me.

[Stella White]: You're not going to ask what it's for first?

[Realbandit]: I've moved enough material through enough rings to know "what's it for" is usually the last question that matters. "How long has it been happening" is the one that decides whether you're already too late.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Realbandit did not confirm or deny prior knowledge of anomalous coil activity in Moria. He also did not hesitate, deflect, or ask a single question Stella wasn't already prepared to answer — a pattern SCUBA flags only because every other party in this investigation, without exception, has done at least one of those three things.

-- End of Report --

Report #7: The Third Gate

Date: 22nd August 3026 Time: 04:21 PM

Realbandit returned contact faster than Stella Foundation expected — under six hours from the initial data transfer.

-- Transcript Begins, Secure Channel, Realbandit to Stella White --

[Realbandit]: Stella. You were right to ask.

[Stella White]: Moria has it too.

[Realbandit]: One gate. Out of everything SNF operates, one. If I hadn't had your Benten and Insitor timestamps to compare against, I'd have written it off as sensor drift — the discrepancy's smaller here, almost like whoever's running this learned to be quieter the third time. But it's there — same signature gap between logged transits and coil wear.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Three regions then. Not two.

[Realbandit]: I pulled everything on that gate going back further than your data covers. There's a maintenance authorization on file, old, routine-looking enough that nobody would've flagged it manually. Except the authorizing signature doesn't match any SNF officer, past or present. It's a mark, not a name. I've never seen it before.

[Stella White]: Send it.

[Realbandit]: Already did. Stella — I've never once seen an authorization on my own infrastructure I couldn't trace back to a person. This bothers me more than the coil data does.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Ma'am, that's the seal. It has to be.

[Stella White]: Confirm it against the Cornucopia shelving order the moment it's through. If The Custodians have a presence in Moria too, this was never a two-region problem. It never was.

[Realbandit]: If someone's been quietly running gate traffic under all four regions without a single one of us noticing until you called me today, I'd like to know what that means for the other gates I haven't personally re-audited yet.

[Stella White]: Reaudit them anyway. Quietly, if you can manage it — the last thing we need is Moria's own government treating this as a public infrastructure scare before we know what we're actually dealing with.

[Realbandit]: You're asking me to sit on a security concern involving my own gates.

[Stella White]: I'm asking you the same thing I've been asking of everyone else on this, Realbandit — look before we explain something none of us understand yet. I know exactly what that costs you if it goes wrong.

[Realbandit]: ...Understood. You'll have my answer either way, in writing, the moment I have it.

-- End of Transcript --

Status: Confirmed presence of The Custodians’ operational signature in a third region — Moria — in addition to Benten and Insitor.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Four regions exist. Three now show confirmed Custodians activity, found independently by three different organizations who were not looking for each other's evidence. SCUBA has stopped treating "how large are the Custodians" as an open question and started treating it as a formality.

-- End of Report --

Report #8: No Answer

Date: 22nd August 3026 Time: 04:55 PM

With The Custodians activity confirmed in three of four regions, Stella Foundation moved to contact Archiel, de-facto leader of Ooga Booga Capital Management regarding Antares gate telemetry.

-- Transcript Begins, Diplomatic Channel, Stella White to OOG Leadership --

[Stella White]: This is Stella White, Stella Foundation, requesting direct contact with Archiel. Priority flag, Benten-Antares hotline.

[OOG Relay, automated]: Request logged. Standing by for acknowledgement.

[long pause]

[OOG Relay, automated]: Acknowledgment window exceeded. Escalating to secondary contact.

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Commander, how long does that hotline usually take to answer?

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Minutes. Not this.

[Stella White]: This is Stella White, escalating personally. I need Archiel or his designated second, now.

[OOG Relay, automated]: Secondary contact unavailable. Requests remain queued.

[Stella White]: Get me anyone on record for OOG leadership. Anyone.

[long pause]

[OOG Junior Officer, delayed response]: Ms. White — apologies for the delay, this channel doesn't usually sit this long. Archiel is... not reachable through standard diplomatic contact at present. I don't have further detail I'm authorized to share.

[Stella White]: Not reachable, or not responding?

[OOG Junior Officer]: I don't know which, ma'am. I was told to log all inbound requests and hold them for his return. I wasn't given a timeline.

-- End of Transcript --

[Stella White, closing internal channel]: That hotline has never gone unanswered this long. Not once, not for anyone, in the entire time I've held this office.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Could be nothing. Could be he's just — off-grid for a few days.

[Stella White]: The leader of the largest corporation in the universe doesn't go off-grid without a designated second stepping in immediately. Get SCUBA moving. Quietly. I want eyes on Antares before this hotline answers on its own terms instead of ours.

-- End of Report --

Report #9: Antares, Dark

Date: 22nd August 3026 Time: 22:40 PM

With the diplomatic hotline still unanswered, Stella Foundation authorized SCUBA to make direct, unofficial contact inside Antares space.

-- Transcript Begins, Antares Space, OOG Coordination Hub --

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Security's lighter than I expected. Lighter than Etherwind, even.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: That's not reassuring, that's just a different kind of wrong. OOG doesn't run light security. Ever.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Maybe they didn't expect anyone to come looking. Move.

-- 23:12 PM, Interior --

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Commander. Records room's already been through.

[Operative 6]: I've got partial comms logs off a terminal they missed. Dated eleven days ago. Archiel's last confirmed outbound transmission.

[Archiel, recovered recording, partial]: —tell the Custodians I've seen enough of what's under Antares to know why they wanted it quiet. I'm not signing off on silence a second time. If Benten's already circling this, someone should — [signal cuts] —

[Operative 3]: He knew we'd come looking before we knew to look.

[Operative 6]: Sir — motion outside. Multiple contacts, no OOG uniform markings.

[Operative 1]: Grab the terminal, full extraction, now.

-- 23:14 PM --

[Unidentified Contact, external]: Stand down. Hands visible. This facility is under active recovery, and you are not on the authorized list.

[Operative 3]: Commander, we've got at least four, positioned at both exits.

[Operative 1]: We're not here for a fight. We're leaving.

[Unidentified Contact]: You'll leave what you're carrying first.

[Operative 1]: (open channel) We're Stella Foundation personnel. I don't think you're the Custodians either, or you wouldn't be negotiating instead of shooting.

[Unidentified Contact]: ...No. We're not the Custodians. We're the ones who've been trying to find who's behind Archiel going dark for eleven days, and we got here first. That terminal's ours.

[Operative 1]: (open channel) Then here's what happens. Nobody fires, we copy the data in front of you, you keep the hardware, and both of us walk away from this with something.

[Unidentified Contact]: ...Copy it. Slow. Any one of you reaches for a weapon instead of a cable, this ends differently.

-- 23:21 PM, Data Transfer Complete --

[Unidentified Contact]: Tell whoever you answer to that Antares isn't asking for help. We were handling this.

[Operative 1]: For what it's worth — whoever you're working for, you might want to compare notes with Stella Foundation before this gets bigger than either of us can handle alone.

[Unidentified Contact]: We'll decide that on our own terms. Move.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: For the first time in this investigation, SCUBA was not the only outside party already on scene.

-- End of Report --

Report #10: Boucher

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 01:20 AM

Cross-referencing recovered terminal data against MysteriousWalrus's known holdings flagged a second base — Boucher — entirely separate from Etherwind.

Boucher's water output matches Nehelennia's, the single highest H₂O-yield planet in the known universe, almost unit for unit. In orbit above Boucher: an active gateway construction site, unfinished, its intended endpoint logged as Promitor, funded and built by COSM as routine regional gateway expansion.

-- Transcript Begins, Boucher Orbit, Remote Survey --

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Commander, this isn't a coincidence-tier match. Boucher's output isn't close to Nehelennia's, it's identical.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Unless Boucher's yield isn't being mined at all.

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: And the gateway explains the delivery problem. A finished gateway straight to Promitor solves that permanently.

[Operative 4]: So Boucher's capacity is being throttled — held back specifically until that gateway comes online.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: What could he have been trying to do?

-- End of Transcript --

Preliminary conclusion: Boucher represents a second, more advanced Cornucopia-derived operation, awaiting completion of a dedicated gateway link to Promitor before scaling distribution.

-- End of Report --

Report #11: The Feedstock

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 03:15 AM

-- Transcript Begins --

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: I keep coming back to it, Commander — why water. He has a matter replicator. Water is the least interesting thing he could make with it.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Unless water was never the product. It's the input nobody watches.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Walk me through that.

[Operative 3]: Water grows crops. Crops become rations. Rations feed the workforce — every workforce, on every planet, in every industry. Ammonia, fuel, BFabs, ship parts, electronics, none of it moves without a fed workforce behind it first. You don't need to touch a single one of those supply chains directly to control all of them. You just need to control how much food capacity exists to keep the people running them alive and working.

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: He told us this already. Not directly — the coupon answer. Given infinite BFabs, he'd stockpile and profit, help the people close to him. He's not trying to fix the shortage or flood the market. He's trying to own the one input that sits underneath everything, without anyone realizing there's a chokepoint there at all — because nobody audits water the way they audit BFabs.

[Operator 1]: And the gateway.

[Operative 4]: That's the part that should genuinely worry Stella. COSM funds and builds every gate in Insitor, including the branch out to Boucher. They think they're building routine regional gateway expansion.

[Operative 3]: Which means COSM is about to finish building the delivery pipeline for a workforce-feeding supply chain that could quietly undercut every food producer in Insitor, at COSM's own expense, and they won't know it until it's already moving.

[Operator 1]: That's not a side effect. That's the plan.

[Operative 4]: And it's a longer game than BFabs specifically. Rations matter always. Whoever controls that chokepoint doesn't need the crisis to end to stay valuable.

-- End of Transcript --

Preliminary conclusion: MysteriousWalrus's Boucher operation is infrastructure for a food-supply play — positioning a functionally infinite, low-scrutiny resource (water) at the root of the crop-to-ration-to-workforce chain that underlies every industry across every region.

-- End of Report --

Report #12: Two Fronts

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 09:30 AM

-- Transcript Begins, Stella White to Operative 1, Private Channel --

[Stella White]: I read the recommendation. I'm not authorizing contact with COSM.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Ma'am, respectfully, that gate finishes construction whether we act or not.

[Stella White]: And the moment COSM knows a functioning matter replicator sits at the source end of that pipeline, COSM owns it. Insitor already produces more food than every other region combined, Commander. Hand a working chokepoint on rations to the region that already dominates rations production, sitting inside a corporation that already controls the region's gate infrastructure, and you've made an existing monopoly permanent and untouchable.

[Operative 1]: So we sit on it.

[Stella White]: We watch it. Closely. The Foundation already operates a legitimate H₂O base on Boucher. There is nothing unusual about our presence there on paper. That gives SCUBA a reason to have people on the ground without needing to explain anything to anyone.

[Operative 1]: Convenient, that we already had a foothold there.

[Stella White]: Convenient. Not suspicious. I'd like to keep it that way.

-- Transcript Continues, Stella Foundation Board Session, Recording Excerpt --

[Board Member, unnamed]: Director White, you've been absent from three consecutive strategy sessions this month, present only by proxy, with no explanation offered to this Board. In that same window, Foundation accounts show fuel and vessel operations expenditure nearly triple standard monthly baseline — including an unscheduled in-orbit repair for the Void Explorer, a vessel this Board was not informed had sustained damage at all.

[Stella White]: There's an active security matter I'm overseeing personally. I can't disclose full details at this time.

[Board Member]: This Board exists to hold this Foundation accountable, Director. That was the entire premise on which it was instated. "An active security matter" is not a valid reason, and this Board cannot do its job blind.

[Stella White]: I understand the concern.

[Board Member]: Do you? Because from where I'm sitting, Director, you've spent Foundation funds, personally deployed the flagship, and left this Board completely blind. We’d like to know what is happening in those closed door meetings with the SCUBA.

[Stella White]: I hear you. I do. And I'd remind this Board, gently, that I retain a majority stake in this Foundation and could dissolve this body if I judged it necessary. I have never done that, not once since its founding, and I have no intention of starting today. But I need this Board to extend me the same trust it was built to hold me accountable within — not instead of.

[Board Member]: That’s just a reminder of who holds the leash, Director.

[Stella White]: I know how that sounds. I'm asking anyway.

-- End of Transcript --

-- End of Report --

Report #13: Three Fronts

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 12:00 PM

On Stella White's direct authorization, SCUBA split into three coordinated operations.

Unit Alpha — Etherwind Extraction

Objective: recover RIG 22 (ClaMS) and every other modified RIG at the Etherwind facility, in full. Etherwind's planetary government — under FIOC, formerly led by SilentReaper himself — was formally notified of a security action through ReaperTech channels.

-- Transcript Begins, Etherwind Surface --

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: FIOC clearance came through clean. Thankfully Reaper's name still opens doors.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Good. Remember, we want everything. Every modified RIG,, documents, parts. Everything that is even remotely related to this.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: RIG 22's dark and cold, exactly how we left it. Confirming modification signatures across the rest of the facility now.

[pause]

[Operative 4]: Commander — it's all thirty-three. Every RIG slot on this base is running the same modification signature. The entire facility was converted. This makes me wonder whether Boucher is also a prototype testing range, or where he deployed the final versions.

[Operative 1]: Wouldn’t be surprised. Setting up the full operation across the universe is wise, not putting all your eggs in one basket or something.

[Operative 4]: Make me wonder whether he is just a pawn or something more.

[Operative 1]: We don’t have the luxury of time to wonder. Pull everything and let's get out of here before people start asking questions.

-- End of Transcript, Unit Alpha --

Unit Beta — Boucher Staging

-- Transcript Begins, Boucher Base --

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Cover's solid. We are just lowly pioneers and no one bats an eye.

[Unit Beta Lead]: Gateway construction status?

[Operative 6]: Still incomplete, but progressing faster than the last projection Realbandit's data gave us.

[Unit Beta Lead]: I want eyes on that ring and the other base round the clock, starting now.

-- End of Transcript, Unit Beta --

Unit Gamma — Antares Recontact

-- Transcript Begins, Antares Space --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: We're not here to fight this time. We're here to be found by the same people who found us last time.

[recorded, Stella White]: To whoever recovers this message — you told my operatives you weren't the Custodians, and that you were investigating Archiel's disappearance independently. I believe you. I'm asking you to compare what you've found against what SCUBA has.

[Operative 6]: Sir, we've got a contact. Same signature profile as last time. They're not hailing.

[Operative 1]: Hold, let them go first.

-- End of Transcript, Unit Gamma --

-- End of Report --

Report #14: Second Contact

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 15:47 PM

-- Transcript Begins, Antares Space, Unit Gamma --

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Sir, they're hailing. Audio only, no visual.

[Unidentified Contact]: We reviewed the recording. Stella White's voice checks out. That buys you a conversation, but we hardly trust you.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Good, we are here to compare notes, not to ask for trust anyway.

[Unidentified Contact]: Compare notes, you say. He's alive. As of nine days ago, he's alive. He's not in Custodians’ custody the way you're probably picturing it — no cell, no guard detail we've been able to identify. He's being kept somewhere he can't easily leave, not somewhere he's being kept from leaving by force. There's a difference.

[Operative 1]: I see.

[Unidentified Contact]: "A second time" — you recovered that fragment, we know you did. Archiel had prior contact with the Custodians. Old contact. Before Boucher, before Etherwind, before any of this had a name yet.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: How old.

[Unidentified Contact]: Old enough that whatever he saw the first time, he spent years quiet about it — until eleven days ago, when he apparently decided quiet wasn't good enough anymore. We don't know what changed his mind.

[Unidentified Contact]: Here's what we'll trade you: a location. Where he was moved from, right after that transmission cut.

[Operative 1]: And in exchange?

[Unidentified Contact]: Everything you find there comes back to us too.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Archiel is not being hidden as a threat to be contained. He is being kept somewhere he can be talked to, at length.

-- End of Report --

Report #15: Hephaestus

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 17:20 PM

The location provided resolved to Hephaestus — Antares's capital planet, home to the factional government and two orbiting gateways. Not a hidden outpost.

-- Transcript Begins, Unit Gamma, Hephaestus Orbit --

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: This doesn't quite track with "quiet containment." Hephaestus has more traffic than almost anywhere in Antares.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: You don't hide someone here if you're trying to keep them out of sight. You do if you're trying to keep them from disappearing without anyone noticing they're gone.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: If he vanished to some dark outpost, eventually somebody asks where the region's own leader went. If he's still moving through Hephaestus, still occasionally seen — nobody raises an alarm.

[Operative 6]: Confirmed gate transit logs show an unlisted departure eleven days ago, timestamp matching the recording cutoff almost exactly. Routed through Gateway to Amethyst here at Hephaestus, then dropped off any tracking we have access to within two systems.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Archiel was never taken somewhere secret. He was kept exactly visible enough to explain his own absence without anyone else asking the question for him.

-- End of Report --

Report #16: The Comparison

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 19:10 PM

Operative 7, cross-referencing recovered audio from both the Void Explorer recording and Archiel's partial transmission fragment, flagged a discrepancy for Commander review.

-- Transcript Begins, Secure Channel --

[Operative 7 / Archivist, remote]: Commander, I need you to listen to something. Both recordings, back to back.

[Archiel, recovered recording]: —tell the Custodians I've seen enough of what's under Antares to know why they wanted it quiet. I'm not signing off on silence a second time. If Benten's already circling this, someone should— [signal cuts]—

[MysteriousWalrus, recovered recording]: If you're hearing this, the crew's fine, I made sure of that. I'm sorry for the theater. I needed a head start...

[Operative 7]: Listen to the pacing. Archiel's fragment — that's a man talking fast, under pressure, mid-sentence when the signal cuts. Real fear, cut off before he could finish a thought.

[Operative 1]: And Walrus.

[Operative 7]: Walrus's message is complete. Start to finish, clean structure, no stumbles, delivered like something he'd already thought through before he ever needed to say it. He apologizes for "the theater" — his word. He explains his reasoning. He even anticipates our next question and answers it before we ask.

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Everything he's said to us reads different if none of it was him being afraid.

[Operative 1]: He wasn't warning us. He was managing us.

[Operative 7]: I went back through every interaction on record. The "that is proprietary" line during the original investigation. Letting himself be extracted without resistance, then vanishing four minutes later using exactly the access and timing he'd need if he'd planned the disappearance before we ever arrived. All of this seems less like personal ambition and more like someone describing a mandate he already operates under.

[Operative 1]: You think he's a Custodian.

[Operative 7]: I think Archiel is a man who left and is being brought back in against his will, and I think Walrus is a man who never needed rescuing at all. Every step of this investigation, he's given us exactly enough to keep moving, and never once enough to actually threaten anything that mattered. That's not luck, Commander. That's containment, run from the inside. He was the one finding us.

-- End of Transcript --

Preliminary conclusion: SCUBA now assesses Walrus as a probable current The Custodians asset or member, in contrast to Archiel, assessed as a former member attempting — and previously failing — to break away.

-- End of Report --

Report #17: Boucher Standoff

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 21:00 PM

-- Transcript Begins, Boucher Orbit --

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Commander, The Authority just dropped out of jump. Full battle configuration.

[Insitor Security Control, broadcast, all channels]: Unregistered capital-class combat vessel, you are in high-traffic orbit above a populated Insitor world. Power down weapon systems immediately or you will be treated as a hostile incursion.

[SilentReaper, open channel]: This is The Authority. Weapons are hot and staying hot until I know exactly what's sitting on that planet's surface.

[Insitor Security Control]: Everything in this system is our fight, Captain.

[Stella White]: Reaper — stand it down. You showing up armed is going to get every ship in orbit painted as the aggressor, ours included.

[SilentReaper]: I'm not standing anything down until I know Walrus is actually down there.

-- 21:14 PM, Walrussian Fleet Detected --

[Operative 6]: Contacts, surface-launched. Small craft, walrus-captained markings, matching the pattern from the original Watergate incident.

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Look! They're not running, they're forming up.

[Insitor Security Control]: All parties, this is your final warning. Stand down or be fired upon regardless of affiliation.

[Operative 3]: The walrus captains might not be the rational ones in this equation, Commander. People get reckless fast when they've got nothing left to lose.

-- 21:20 PM, Third Party Detected --

[Operative 6]: New contacts. Partial IFF ping. Commander, that's a FOXV signature.

[Euu, FOXV, open channel]: Looks like a party down here. Anyone wanna to sell tickets, or should we just take one?

[Operative 3]: They're here to grab whatever's cheapest to steal in the confusion.

[Insitor Security Control]: We are now tracking six distinct armed factions in this orbit. This system will not tolerate a battle over a water planet. Someone. Stand. Down.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Everyone present has too much to lose to want this fight — everyone except the walrus captains, who may have nothing left to lose at all, and the one party circling the edges hoping someone else makes that mistake first.

-- End of Report --

Report #18: The Safe

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 21:25 PM

While the standoff held above Boucher, Stella Foundation's ground forces on Boucher moved on MysteriousWalrus's compound directly.

-- Transcript Begins, Boucher Surface --

[MysteriousWalrus]: I was wondering how long the fleet upstairs was going to be a distraction.

[Ground Team Lead]: Stand down. This ends easier if you let it.

[MysteriousWalrus]: You already know I'm not the type to make things easy, Commander.

[Ground Team Lead]: Contact's moving! He's headed for the eastern hangar, all units converge—

-- 21:29 PM, Compound Interior --

[Ground Team Lead]: Contact! We've got walrus captains dug in around the hangar approach, they are NOT standing down, taking fire, taking fire!

[Operative 1 / Commander, remote]: How many.

[Ground Team Lead]: Enough. Dug in tight, good angles, better weapons than a water base has any business stocking. We're pinned in the eastern corridor, two wounded, no clean line to the hangar.

[Operative 1]: Fall back to cover, do not push through that line unsupported.

[Ground Team Lead]: Commander, if we fall back he escapes. Requesting orbital fire support on the hangar approach, danger-close!

[long pause]

[Operative 1]: (open channel) Stella, I need an answer, now — ground team's pinned, they want orbital suppression on Walrus's hangar approach.

[Stella White]: Authorized. Blow up the base except the hangar. I want him stopped, not killed. Keep it targeted though, we don’t want Insitor Security going nuclear.

[Operative 1]: (to fleet) Fire support, danger-close, coordinates incoming — and everyone else in this orbit, hold position and hold fire, this is NOT the opening shot, repeat, this is NOT the opening shot—

-- 21:33 PM --

[Ground Team Lead]: Suppression's down, corridor's clear, pushing to the hangar now—

[pause]

[Ground Team Lead]: He's gone. The craft cleared the atmosphere almost instantly. Cleared before the strike even landed. Walrus captains are standing down — no, belay that — they're not fighting anymore.

[Operative 1]: They were buying him time.

-- 21:52 PM, Walrus's Personal Quarters --

[Ground Team Lead]: Small safe, built into the floor, not on any schematic we pulled for this compound. Manual construction, recent.

[pause]

[Ground Team Lead]: Commander, I need eyes on this immediately. Physical documents. Scorched at the edges, torn through the middle in multiple places, but every piece has been carefully reassembled and re-bound.

[Ground Team Lead]: It's labeled, Commander. Handwritten, old style. "Cornucopia — Original."

-- End of Transcript --

Ground forces gave chase as Walrus fled the compound aboard an unidentifiable escape craft, capable of unfathomable atmospheric acceleration. Visuals were logged; the craft's profile matches nothing in any registry SCUBA has access to.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Every prior recovery in this investigation was a copy, a derivative, or a working implementation. This is the first physical evidence SCUBA has recovered that appears to trace back to the project's actual origin.

-- End of Report --

Report #18B: Stand Down

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 21:40 PM

-- Transcript Begins, Boucher Orbit --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: They don't know it's over. As far as anyone in this orbit's concerned, we just fired a strike into a planet's surface mid-standoff and nobody's explained why.

[Insitor Security Control, broadcast, all channels]: All parties, we have confirmed weapons discharge on the surface. Explain yourselves immediately or this system will treat every vessel present as hostile.

[Stella White, open channel]: This is Stella White. That strike was a single, targeted suppression action against an armed compound below, authorized by me, concluded.

[SilentReaper, open channel]: The Authority stands down from combat posture. We got what we came for. This doesn't need to go further.

-- 21:42 PM --

[Operative 6]: Contact! Small craft, multiple, breaking from the Walrussian formation, converging on our nearest freighter—

[Operative 3 / Engineer]: Those aren't crewed. Drones, autonomous, look like a last-ditch strike package someone set loose before the captains stood down.

[weapons fire, brief]

[Operative 6]: Splash three. All three drones down, no damage to our hull.

[Insitor Security Control, broadcast]: Confirmed hostile drone launch from Walrussian formation. All Insitor security assets: engage the launching vessel.

[Euu, FOXV, open channel]: Oh, that's not a warning shot. Someone's having a very bad day down there.

[weapons fire, sustained]

[Operative 6]: Insitor security's putting everything into the lead Walrussian vessel. That's — full loss, no escape pods logged before hull breach.

[Euu, open channel]: And there it is. No trial, no identification, just a corpse and a very clear message. I do admire efficiency when it isn't aimed at me.

[Operative 1]: They clearly have had enough. Everyone still armed in this orbit, stand down NOW before Insitor decides they want to see more fireworks.

[Insitor Security Control, broadcast, all channels]: Message received, we trust, by everyone remaining. Power down and hold position for inspection, or you will receive the same answer that vessel just did.

[Euu, open channel]: Consider it received, loud and clear. FOXV has no further business here today. Do give my regards to whoever's left holding this mess, Stella. I'll be watching how it ends.

[Stella White, open channel]: Understood. Full compliance, immediately.

[SilentReaper, open channel]: The Authority is standing down.

[Operative 6]: FOXV signature's gone, jumped the second Euu finished talking. Remaining Walrussian vessels are breaking hard, scattering.

-- End of Transcript --

Status: Insitor Security Command destroyed the lead Walrussian vessel responsible for the unsanctioned drone launch, with no survivors logged. FOXV, present under the direct command of leader Euu, withdrew without incident. Two SCUBA-affiliated ground personnel wounded, non-critical.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Insitor Security did not warn twice, and Euu did not need to be told twice either. SCUBA flags Euu's closing line, "I'll be watching how it ends," as neither a threat nor a farewell. They came to see how this ends before deciding whether it's worth fighting over later.

-- End of Report --

Report #18C: Breach of Order

Date: 23rd August 3026 Time: 21:58 PM

-- Transcript Begins, Boucher Orbit --

[Stella White, private channel]: Reaper. I need The Authority.

[SilentReaper]: You just watched them vaporize a ship for defying a hold order, Stella.

[Stella White]: I watched them vaporize a ship that fired first. We haven't fired anything. I'm asking you to get me to that compound before their ground teams process it into evidence lockup we'll never see again.

[SilentReaper]: ...This is a bad idea. Get aboard. Now, before I think better of this.

-- Transcript Continues, Aboard The Authority, Descending --

[Insitor Security Control, broadcast]: The Authority, you are under a standing hold order. Return to the designated position immediately. This is your only warning.

[SilentReaper, open channel]: Negative. We just want to secure Stella Foundation property. We’ll be out of your hair in no time.

[Insitor Security Control]: You do not get to unilaterally set the terms of a lockdown, Captain. Final warning.

[SilentReaper]: Don’t make mistakes you will not like the consequences of, Insitor Security.

[Insitor Security Control]: Torpedo launch confirmed.

[point-defense fire, sustained]

[Operative 6]: All torpedoes down, clean intercepts, zero impacts. Hull's untouched.

[Insitor Security Control]: Ground defense, engage. Railgun batteries, target The Authority, full spread.

[railgun impacts, repeated, heavy]

[Operative 4 / Applied Physicist]: Commander, we're taking direct hits, planetary railgun slugs, multiple impacts across the dorsal plating—

[Operative 3]: Armor's holding. Holding. Everything is deflecting off. What is this thing made of? God’s armor?

[SilentReaper, open channel]: Fire all railguns and destroy their torpedo launchers. Make sure to not hit the hull. Also, SOMEONE destroy those planetary defense railguns before they punch a role into the hull. I like my ship hole-free.

[Railguns fire targeted shots destroying all Insitor Sec railguns in two volleys, before they could react. Meanwhile 2 ReaperTech Planet Buster Missiles are launched, which fly straight through any countermeasures, imploding 2 out of the three planetary defense railguns.]

[Insitor Security Control]: What is that thin — [Reaper shuts off radio]

-- 22:03 PM, Surface, Compound –

[SilentReaper]: Down and holding. Ground team, you have four minutes. Move.

[Ground Team Lead]: Insitor ground security's converging, Commander, weapons raised—

[Stella White, exiting vessel, hands visible]: Officer, I am not armed. I am asking for a conversation before this becomes something neither of us can walk back.

[Insitor Ground Officer]: Director White, your ship not only tanked torpedoes and railgun slugs, but also destroyed nearly all of them. Do you really think we can just let you through?

[Stella White]: It was us showing restraint officer. Surely Insitor doesn’t expect us to not return fire when they throw enough ammunition to bankrupt small planets.

[Stella White, opening priority channel]: Tonatsi. I need you, right now, and I need you faster than I've ever needed anyone.

[long pause]

[Tonatsi, COSM, relayed to Insitor Security Command]: This is Tonatsi, COSM leadership. Stand your forces down at the Boucher compound, and hold planetary defense fire, effective immediately.

[Insitor Ground Officer]: Director, my command just put everything we had into that ship and it walked away clean. That's not something I can just wave off—

[Tonatsi]: I'm not asking you to wave it off, Officer. I'm telling you to stop before it becomes something worse. Stand. Down.

[long pause]

[Insitor Ground Officer]: ...Batteries holding fire. You have your window, Director. Use it.

-- 22:07 PM --

[Ground Team Lead]: We've got it, Commander. Documents secured, we're clear.

[Ship Alarms Blaring]: Warning. Unidentified craft closing in. Time to impact 13 seconds. Signature consistent with FOXV crafts.

[SilentReaper]: iMPACT?

[Operative 6]: Yes sir, impact. I have a firing solution, and railguns are lo-

[SilentReaper]: Fire.

[Railgun hits the incoming craft head on and it explodes]

[SilentReaper]: Time to get out of here.

-- End of Transcript --

Status: The Cornucopia blueprints were successfully recovered from Boucher after The Authority sustained a full torpedo spread and sustained planetary railgun fire without hull penetration. The situation was contained and defused through Tonatsi's personal, real-time intervention. A FOXV craft was also downed on Boucher as it threatened The Authority.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Insitor Security threw everything short of a full fleet engagement at a single ship today and could not put a scratch through its armor. SCUBA notes that The Authority's survival, more than the blueprints themselves, may end up being the story regional command remembers longest.

-- End of Report --

Report #20: Transit

Date: 24th August 3026 Time: 05:15 PM

With the Cornucopia blueprints secured and Insitor's lockdown narrowly cleared, The Authority set course for Benten Station via Antares.

-- Transcript Begins, Antares Transit Corridor --

[Unidentified Contact]: You made it out of Insitor. We heard what The Authority did to their railgun batteries. That's not a quiet reputation to be flying with anymore.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: We're not looking for quiet right now. We're looking for Archiel.

[Unidentified Contact]: Still where we last confirmed, as far as we can tell. No change in status.

[Operative 1]: We recovered the original Cornucopia blueprints. We're building a forgery good enough to pass inspection, and we intend to trade it to the Custodians for his release.

[long pause]

[Unidentified Contact]: You're offering them a fake for a man they've kept for eleven days and counting. If they catch it before the trade completes, that doesn't end with Archiel walking free. That ends with both of you disappearing the same way he did.

[Operative 1]: We're aware of the risk.

[Unidentified Contact]: Then here's something that might help you manage it. We don't have a name for any of the Custodians. What we do have is a contact protocol — how Archiel reached them, back when he still could. We've been sitting on it because we didn't have anything worth using it for. Maybe you do.

[Stella White, joining channel]: Send it. Everything you have.

[Unidentified Contact]: It's yours. Use it carefully, Director. We'd like our own reason to still trust you after this is over.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: For the first time, SCUBA has a way to actually reach the Custodians, rather than simply finding evidence of where it has already been.

-- End of Report --

Report #21: The Exchange

Date: 25th August 3026 Time: 03:00 AM, En Route to Benten

The forged blueprint set was completed aboard The Authority, cross-verified by Operative 7 against every physical and structural detail recovered from the genuine article, built from genuinely old pre-Exodus salvage material and deliberately incomplete in critical technical content. Using the contact protocol provided by the Antares source, Stella White initiated direct contact with The Custodians for the first time.

-- Transcript Begins --

[Stella White]: This is Stella White, Stella Foundation. I'm told this reaches you.

[long silence]

[Unknown, The Custodians]: It reaches us. That protocol hasn't been used by anyone but Archiel in a very long time. You have our attention, Director. Use it carefully.

[Stella White]: I have the original Cornucopia documents. Recovered, verified, in my custody. I want Archiel, unharmed, in exchange for them.

[Unknown, The Custodians]: You understand what you're offering to hand over.

[Stella White]: I understand exactly what I'm offering. I also understand that a man who once sat where I'm sitting now has spent eleven days paying for trying to do the right thing. I'd like that to stop being the cost of decency in this universe.

[long pause]

[Unknown, The Custodians]: Location and terms will follow. Come alone, or come with exactly as many people as you're willing to lose if this goes wrong. We will know which.

-- Transcript Continues, Exchange Site, 06:40 AM --

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Ma'am, this is as far as protocol lets us escort you.

[Stella White]: I know. Hold position, and if anything goes wrong, you extract Archiel first. Not me. Him.

-- 06:52 AM --

[Unknown, The Custodians]: The documents.

[Stella White]: Archiel first.

[long pause]

[Archiel, weak but audible]: ...Stella?

[Stella White]: I've got you. Documents are yours. Let him go.

[Unknown, The Custodians]: Verifying.

[extended pause]

[Unknown, The Custodians]: ...This will do. For now.

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst, remote]: Commander, they're disengaging. Archiel's clear, moving toward our position.

[Operative 1]: Get them both aboard. Now, before "for now" stops meaning what we hope it means.

-- End of Transcript --

Status: Archiel successfully recovered, alive, in stable condition. The forged blueprint set was accepted without immediate detection.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: "This will do. For now." SCUBA does not consider this exchange closed. It considers it bought time.

-- End of Report --

Report #22: Second Time

Date: 25th August 3026 Time: 09:15 AM, Aboard The Authority

-- Transcript Begins --

[Stella White]: You don't have to do this now.

[Archiel]: No. If I wait, I'll talk myself out of it again, the same way I did the first time. Ask.

[Operative 1 / Commander]: Your recording said "I'm not signing off on silence a second time." What was the first time?

[Archiel]: ...Years ago. Before OOG was what it is now. I was younger, smaller, and someone with a lot of patience and a lot of old money found me at exactly the point where I would've said yes to almost anything that promised to matter. They recruited me with proof — proof that scarcity in this universe isn't natural, it's managed, and that I could be one of the people doing the managing instead of one of the people living inside it.

[Stella White]: You joined them.

[Archiel]: I joined them. I sat at whatever passes for their table for longer than I've told anyone, including you. I watched them shelve things that could have fed entire regions, watched them time shortages like weather patterns, and I told myself every single time that the alternative — releasing it, all of it, all at once — was worse. I believed that. I think some part of me still does.

[Operative 1]: So what changed.

[Archiel]: Etherwind. A small operator, a walrus, of all things, running a live field test with tech that shouldn't exist. I watched the Custodinas decide that was an acceptable risk to take, in the middle of the worst production shortage in recorded history, because it might make them richer before it made anyone else's life better. That was the first time it stopped feeling like careful stewardship and started feeling like what it actually is. Hoarding, with better paperwork.

[Stella White]: So you tried to warn us.

[Archiel]: I tried to warn Benten, because Benten was closest to figuring it out on its own. I got exactly four seconds of a transmission out before they cut me off. And then eleven days of being reminded, very patiently, very reasonably, why I agreed with them the first time.

[Operative 1: Did it work?

[Archiel]: ...Ask me again once I've had more than a few hours off that ship. I want to say no. But I said yes once already, under exactly this kind of pressure, and I'd be lying to both of you if I pretended I don't understand why I might again.

[Stella White]: Well. you can rest here for now. To ensure your security, we’ll get the Benten Navy to arrange an escort to Antares I.

[Archiel]: If you're about to release everything publicly, do it fast. Every day you wait is another day for them to find a way to make you agree with them too.

[Stella White]: Let us worry about that.

-- End of Transcript --

Status: Archiel has disclosed prior, willing membership to The Custodians, predating the current investigation by several years. His break followed direct exposure to the Etherwind/Cornucopia field test.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Archiel did not need to be broken to talk. He needed permission to stop defending a decision he'd already started doubting on his own. Whatever Stella intends to do with what SCUBA has found, the Custodians’ greatest weapon has never been secrecy or force. It has been the eleven days, or eleven years, it takes to convince someone reasonable that hoarding and stewardship are the same thing.

-- End of Report --

Report #23: Reckoning

Date: 25th August 3026 Time: 11:00 AM, Benten Station

The Authority's return to Benten space was met with priority hold orders before it ever reached dock.

-- Transcript Begins --

[Benten Traffic Control]: The Authority, you are ordered to hold at the outer perimeter. The Benten government has flagged this vessel for immediate inquiry upon arrival.

[Operative 6 / Field Analyst]: Commander, the Foundation’s Board has been trying to reach Director White for over six hours. Nine missed priority calls.

-- Transcript Continues, Priority Channel, Benten Regional Government --

[Benten Government Liaison]: Director White. Captain. Two of this region's five Barons personally flew an armada into Insitor space, exchanged fire with Insitor Security, sustained a full torpedo spread railgun bombardment from Insitor's planetary defense grid, and did so without informing this government at any point before, during, or after the fact. We learned what happened to The Authority from Insitor's own formal complaint. Not from either of you.

[SilentReaper]: I take full responsibility for the fleet’s actions.

[Benten Government Liaison]: This isn't about assigning blame, Captain, it's about what you've put at risk. Benten and Insitor operate under an active industrial syndication — years of negotiated trade cooperation, shared logistics agreements, joint material access neither region built overnight. That relationship exists because both governments decided, deliberately, that Benten and Insitor were worth trusting each other over.

[Stella White]: Oh cry me a river. We negotiated that Syndication deal. Besides, it was a critically important recovery mission, so we had to roll in with big guns.

[Benten Government Liaison]: "Critically important" has not been explained to this government at any point, Director, which is precisely the problem. And your help in the deal is not forgotten, but it's not a free pass to start bombing planets. This is the kind of incident partnerships get renegotiated over.

[SilentReaper]: You’ll have full disclosure soon.

[Benten Government Liaison]: We will have it today, Captain, not on your schedule. And Director White — your Board has apparently been attempting to reach you for the better part of a day, with no response. I would suggest that conversation is no longer optional either.

-- End of Transcript --

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Every front this investigation has touched has now converged on the same demand: full disclosure, immediately. The question is no longer whether the truth comes out. It is whether Stella and Reaper get to control how it does, or whether Benten's own government and Stella's own Board do it for them first — and whether Benten's most valuable regional partnership survives the answer.

-- End of Report --

Report #24: Full Disclosure — FINAL

Date: 25th August 3026 Time: 18:00 PM

Rather than await the outcome of Benten's inquiry, Stella Foundation's Board review, or Insitor's ongoing investigation — any of which held the power to classify Cornucopia as a national or regional secret and bury it through entirely legal means — Stella White and SilentReaper made a joint decision to release everything first.

The full record was submitted to the Interstellar Commerce Review, under Editor-in-Chief Mcfluffles, for immediate publication.

-- Transcript Begins, Stella White and SilentReaper, Final Authorization --

[Stella White]: Once this goes out, there's no walking it back. Not from the Board, not from Benten, not from the Custodians.

[SilentReaper]: I know exactly what it costs us. I also know what happens if a government gets there first and locks this behind a classification stamp instead. Better it belongs to everyone than to whoever moves fastest to own it.

[Stella White]: Mcfluffles is ready?

[SilentReaper]: Ready and asking no questions we didn't already answer for him. He knows exactly what he's publishing.

[Stella White]: Then send it.

-- Transcript Continues, ICR Publication Notice --

[Mcfluffles, ICR, public release]: The Interstellar Commerce Review is publishing, in full and without redaction, the complete SCUBA investigation record — all field reports, recovered journals, technical schematics, RIG modification blueprints, and archival documentation pertaining to Project Cornucopia, a pre-Exodus matter-replication technology recently confirmed active and revived under an organization identifying itself as "The Custodians." This includes the original recovered blueprints, verified authentic, alongside the complete operational history compiled by Stella Foundation's Bureau of Anomalies over the course of this investigation. This material is being released publicly, immediately, and without prior government review, at the joint request of Stella Foundation and ReaperTech Shipyards. Readers are advised: this changes everything downstream of it, and we make no claim to know exactly how.

-- End of Transcript --

Final assessment: Every recovered document, journal, schema, and report generated across this investigation — from the initial investigation through Archiel's recovery — is now public record, published ahead of any government's ability to classify or suppress it. Cornucopia is no longer a secret held by MysteriousWalrus, The Custodians, by Stella Foundation, or by anyone.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: This investigation began as a minor investigation into an output anomaly. It ends with a functioning matter replicator's complete technical history sitting in front of every reader in the known universe, published faster than any government, corporation, or shadow council could act to stop it. What happens to the price of BFabs, the value of scarcity itself, or The Custodians' thousand-year habit of quiet control is no longer SCUBA's question to answer. It belongs to everyone who reads this report next.

"I like water" remains, to this day, the most honest thing anyone involved in this investigation has said on the record.

SCUBA's final recommendation: there is nothing left to recommend. It's out. Good luck to all of us.

SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT: THE FIRST FORTY-EIGHT HOURS

Classification: Previously unnecessary
Date: 25th–27th August 3026
Prepared by: Bureau of Anomalies, Stella Foundation
Subject: Immediate consequences following the public release of the Cornucopia investigation

Report #25: The First Thirty Minutes

Date: 25th August 3026
Time: 18:00 PM

The Interstellar Commerce Review finally pulled the trigger, publishing the Cornucopia archive in its entirety.

For roughly eleven seconds, the galaxy held its breath. Total silence.

Then the surge hit—the known universe began downloading every single byte at once.

It wasn't just a summary or some sterilized government statement. This wasn't a redacted investigation with the "dangerous" bits scrubbed clean by officials.

It was everything.

The SCUBA field reports, the leaked Etherwind recordings, the Promitor gateway module, the Custodians' ancient seal, Archiel's vanishing act, the Boucher operation, the Walrussian fleet, and the firefight in Insitor. Even the recovered original Cornucopia documents were there for everyone to see.

Crucially, the technical schematics were included.

Within four minutes, the ICR's primary servers simply buckled under the weight of the requests. They went dark.

By minute seven, mirrors were popping up everywhere. By minute eleven, someone had already posted the first verified reconstruction of the RIG 22 modifications to a public engineering forum.

By minute nineteen, Benten's emergency channel was lighting up Stella White's terminal. She didn't bother to pick up.

By minute twenty-three, Insitor Security attempted its first public statement. It lasted forty-eight seconds before being yanked offline.

Someone had realized the report proved COSM infrastructure was being used to ferry Custodian gear through Promitor. The second statement, appearing twelve minutes later, was significantly more defensive.

Public Emergency Broadcast — Insitor Security

"The regional government is aware of the materials currently circulating regarding Project Cornucopia. Citizens are advised that the technical information contained therein has not been independently certified for safety, reproducibility, or lawful deployment."

Unknown Voice (background):
"That sounds like a ban."

"It is not currently a ban."

Second voice:
"Are we banning it?"

"I said it is not currently a ban."

The transmission cut out.

SCUBA notes, unprompted: Nobody had actually built a second device yet, but that was almost beside the point. The secret was out in the wild. Every government in the universe just realized their power now depends on convincing people not to build something they already have the blueprints for.

Report #26: Panic Has a Market Price

Date: 25th August 3026
Time: 19:12 PM

The economy didn't crash immediately—it just started fighting with itself. BFabs futures became a chaotic mess of falling and rising spikes.

Water producers saw a massive buying surge until traders reached the section on MysteriousWalrus's real play. Then the mood shifted. Food and ration producers reacted far more violently to the news.

A major Insitor agricultural group actually froze its automated orders because its forecasts were screaming contradictions—one side predicting total obsolescence and the other claiming they were now the most strategic industry in existence. Both conclusions were drawn from the exact same report.

Emergency Market Call

Unnamed Analyst:
"You are all focusing on the replicator."

Exchange Moderator:
"It is a matter replicator."

Unnamed Analyst:
"Yes, and apparently none of you read past page twenty-eight."

Second Analyst:
"The water."

Unnamed Analyst:
"The water."

Third Analyst:
"You're telling me the most important economic revelation in a document about infinite matter production is—"

Unnamed Analyst:
"—water."

[Silence]

Exchange Moderator:
"I'm suspending trading."

Unnamed Analyst:
"On what?"

Exchange Moderator:
"I don't know. Everything."

Voluntary restrictions turned into mandatory lockdowns by 20:00. By 21:00, industrial titans were already trying to buy up every engineer capable of reading the RIG modification logs.

One of those deals leaked, sparking what one commentator called the fastest antitrust riot in history. It wasn't a riot yet, but it only took another thirty-six minutes to get there.

Report #27: The Benten Demonstration

Date: 25th August 3026
Time: 21:37 PM
Location: Benten Station

It started quietly enough. Four hundred people gathered outside the administrative complex with a mix of signs: RELEASE THE REST, NO MORE CUSTODIANS, and YOU KNEW. One person just held a sign saying I LIKE WATER, which turned from a joke into a rallying cry for a third of the crowd.

Things soured at 22:14 when a rumor hit that the government was going to retroactively classify the blueprints. It was a lie, but the government's denial took so long that security had already put up barriers. Industrial coolant was thrown. No one was hurt, but the tension snapped.

Security Transcript

Benten Security:
"Stand back from the barricades!"

Crowd:
"WHO HAD THE SEAL?"

Benten Security:
"We do not know!"

Crowd:
"THEN WHY ARE YOU GUARDING THE BUILDING?"

Benten Security:
"Because you're trying to get into it!"

Unknown Individual:
"WE JUST WANT TO KNOW IF YOU'RE HIDING A MATTER REPLICATOR!"

Benten Security:
"We are not!"

Second Unknown Individual:
"THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE CUSTODIANS WOULD SAY!"

Benten Security:
"...That's not helpful."

The demo turned into a riot at 22:31 over a confiscated sign claiming the Custodians built the government. No proof, but plenty of popularity. The mess lasted three hours and twenty-three people were grabbed. They were all let go the next day because the headlines weren't worth the hassle. SCUBA agrees.

Report #28: The Governments

Date: 26th August 3026
Time: 08:00 AM

By morning, the regional responses had split into four distinct flavors of crisis management.

BENTEN — Inquiry

Benten went for the formal route: a full inquiry into Stella Foundation, ReaperTech, The Authority, SCUBA, and the Boucher action. Stella and Reaper were summoned. Publicly it looked good, but privately, "administrative" travel bans were slapped on everyone involved. SilentReaper called it banishment with paperwork. The government said nothing.

INSITOR — Containment

Insitor didn't play around. COSM froze the Boucher-Promitor project and started auditing every gateway. Then they hit the wall: if the Custodians were already in the system, shutting things down just made them harder to find. They banned the tech and called release of the plans a security offense, then failed to punish Stella and Reaper because every council member had already downloaded the file.

MORIA — Verification

Realbandit played it cool, confirming the anomalies matched SNF data and opening a "voluntary inspection" regime. It sounded responsible until he refused to answer if Moria had any of the tech for themselves. The resulting four-hour press silence on that specific point was... telling.

ANTARES — Silence

Antares just went quiet. Archiel was still gone, and the news of his Custodian history caused total political meltdown. Panic over whether the government knew or was just incompetent spread fast. Leaked "current" photos of Archiel turned out to be years old. No one cared; they published them anyway.

Report #29: The Sanctions Problem

Date: 26th August 3026
Time: 13:20 PM

Sanctions were a given, but targeting them was another story. Proposing bans on the Custodians got unanimous support right up until someone asked who they actually were. Then the room went quiet.

Targeting MysteriousWalrus was even messier. He'd run illegal tech, ducked custody, and possessed original documents, but he hadn't killed a soul and ultimately forced the truth into the light. Was he a terrorist, a whistleblower, or just the smartest guy in the room? The sanctions were stalled for "clarification" that never came.

Report #30: The Major Powers React

Date: 26th August 3026
Time: 19:00 PM

The corporations beat the governments to the punch. Predictably.

OOG

Ooga Booga suspended scarcity-linked investments without a word. Markets assumed either genius risk management or that they knew Archiel would vanish. Neither looked good.

COSM

COSM demanded "verifiable civilian oversight" for gateway tech—a rich demand from the guys already holding the keys. They didn't find it funny.

SNF

SNF started a verification program and was immediately flooded with schematics. Their response: "Stop. We already have them."

ReaperTech

SilentReaper got the heat for the bombardment, but since he builds the ships everyone needs, the ban didn't stick. His take: "You can ban me from the meeting. You cannot ban physics."

Stella Foundation

Stella White took the most personal hits. Board reviews, government summons, and accusations of market destabilization. But the public saw a hero who found the secret and gave it to everyone. Her ratings became a statistical anomaly.

Report #31: The Emergency at Etherwind

Date: 27th August 3026
Time: 03:11 AM

The real trouble started at Etherwind when someone tried to kick-start a confiscated RIG. For forty-three seconds, water surged backward through the entire complex—tanks, condensers, even sealed pipes. Then it just stopped. Six hours of evacuation followed while three governments argued over who owned the mess. An anonymous account posted "just turn it off and on again." It was banned, then brought back. No one knows who it was.

Report #32: MysteriousWalrus

Date: 27th August 3026
Time: 11:56 AM

Walrus was a ghost for thirty-six hours, though his name was on every wanted list and protest sign. Stuffed walruses even hit the shelves. Then a transmission hit every relay at once—no origin, just audio.

Unverified Transmission

MysteriousWalrus:

"So. You read it. Good. That was always going to be the hard part. Not building it, but getting you to look before someone told you that you weren't allowed to. I've seen the meetings and the bans. Very reassuring. I don't recommend building this in your garage—not enough water. But we're finally asking the right question. Not who controls it, but why you're so sure the Custodians are gone. Anyway. I still like water."

The signal was everywhere and nowhere. An image of a plain glass of water was later attached to the archive with a reflection that might be him. A SCUBA analyst asked why he's taking pictures of water. No one knows.

SCUBA notes, final and entirely unofficial: Blueprints are out. Governments are moving. The Custodians lost their shadow. Archiel is somewhere. Stella and Reaper are answering for the chaos. And Walrus? He's "missing"—which is probably exactly what he wants. Somewhere, he's still sitting by that machine. Drinking water. Or making more of it.
